Style

  • Not to be dramatic, but you've been living in my head rent-free since you texted back.

  • I'd take you to the moon, but my budget is more like the taco place down the street. Still in?

  • Okay, random question, but it's been bugging me: what's your go-to comfort movie?

  • Okay, I'll say it: you seem like the most fun person on this app. What's your idea of a perfect Saturday?

What does rizz mean?

Rizz is slang for charm: being able to flirt, start a conversation or get someone interested in you. It comes from the middle of the word "charisma," was popularized by streamer Kai Cenat, and was named Oxford's Word of the Year in 2023. To "rizz someone up" is to flirt with them; "unspoken rizz" is charm without saying anything at all.

A rizz line is the text-message version: a short opener, compliment or reply built to get a smile and a response. Unlike a classic pickup line, it doesn't need a pun. The best ones sound like something you'd actually text.

Rizz lines vs. pickup lines

A classic pickup line is a setup and a punchline ("Are you a magician?"), and it works as a shared joke. A line with rizz skips the pun and sounds like you. It might be a confident observation, a playful question or a compliment about something they chose. Both have their place. Cheesy lines are safer when you're nervous; rizz lines usually start a better conversation because they give the other person something real to respond to. If you want the punny kind, the pickup line generator has those.

What makes a rizz line work

Good rizz lines share three things. They're confident without being intense, they're specific enough to feel like they were written for this person, and they're easy to reply to. That last part matters most. A line that ends in a question, a choice or a playful challenge gives the other person an obvious next move. A line that's only a compliment leaves them stuck typing "haha thanks."

Tone does the rest. The smoothest lines are calm and a little understated. The funniest ones are self-aware and poke fun at you instead of the other person. Either way, the point is to make the conversation feel easy.

  • Short beats clever. One or two sentences is plenty for a text.
  • Give them something to answer: a question, a this-or-that, or a light challenge.
  • Laugh at yourself before anyone else. "I drafted this three times" is more charming than a flawless line.
  • Keep it PG. Suggestive openers get unmatched or ignored far more often than they get replies.
  • Personalize when you can. A line that references their profile or your last chat always beats a generic one.

How to deliver rizz over text

Over text there's no smile or tone of voice to soften a line, so the words have to do all the work. Send the line on its own, not buried in a paragraph. Don't pad it with "haha" or three emojis. One is fine if it matches the vibe. Then wait. Firing off a follow-up before they've answered makes even the best line look nervous.

Timing counts too. A funny line lands better in the evening, when people are scrolling and relaxed, than in the middle of a workday. If you already talked earlier, pick up a thread from that conversation instead of opening from scratch. "You still owe me that song recommendation" feels more natural than a cold opener.

When not to use a rizz line

Lines are for starting or restarting a conversation. They're not a substitute for one. If the chat is already flowing, stay in it. Dropping a random line mid-conversation kills the momentum. And if they've gone quiet or given short replies twice in a row, another line won't fix it. Give them space or ask something real.

  • They're upset, busy or telling you something serious. Read the room.
  • You've already sent a line and they haven't replied. Don't stack a second one.
  • You just met through friends or work and the vibe isn't flirty yet. Start with normal conversation.
  • They've said they're not interested. Take the answer.

How to follow up after they reply

The line gets you one reply. What you send next decides whether the conversation keeps going. Work with whatever they gave you. If they answered your question, react to it and add a bit about yourself. If they joked back, match their energy and build on the joke instead of changing the subject.

Aim to share and ask in roughly equal amounts. A chat that's all your questions feels like an interview; one that's all your stories feels like a monologue. Once there's a real back-and-forth, suggest something concrete: coffee, a walk, the taco spot they recommended. Rizz only gets you started. Making an actual plan is how it turns into a date.

How to respond to a rizz line, "hey" or "wyd"

If someone uses a line on you and you're interested, play along. Rate their line, answer the question or top it with a comeback. A dry "hey" or "wyd" is really a request for you to carry the conversation, so give it a little energy and hand something back. "Talking to you. Best part of my night so far" gives them way more to work with than "nm u."

Not interested? A short, friendly reply with no follow-up question is enough. You don't owe anyone a comeback.

Frequently asked questions

What does rizz mean?

Rizz is slang for charm or the ability to flirt, short for "charisma." Oxford named it Word of the Year in 2023. A rizz line is a short opener, compliment or reply meant to spark a flirty conversation, usually over text.

What are the best rizz lines to send over text?

The best rizz lines are short, confident and easy to answer. Lines that end with a question or a choice, like "Quick poll: sunrise person or sunset person? This decides everything," work better than pure compliments because they give the other person an obvious reply.

What's the difference between rizz lines and pickup lines?

Classic pickup lines usually rely on a pun or a setup, like "Are you a magician?" Rizz lines are more conversational and texting-native. They sound like something you'd actually send in a DM or on a dating app, and they lean on confidence and humor more than wordplay.

How do I reply when someone uses a pickup line on me?

If you're interested, play along: rate the line, answer the question or top it with a comeback like "That was cheesy, but I like cheese. Continue." If you're not interested, a friendly "ha, nice one" without a follow-up question is enough.

What if they leave my rizz line on read?

Give it time. People are busy, and a line is easy to forget about. If a day or two passes, you can send one light follow-up that isn't another line. Ask something real, or bring up something you know they're into. If that goes unanswered too, move on.

Is this rizz line generator free?

Yes. It's free, runs in your browser and doesn't need an account. Every line was written and picked by hand. Choose a style and generate as many times as you like.
